In Honor Of The First Day Of Autumn

Autumn is my favorite time of year, and it has been my favorite since the day I learned to appreciate the difference between a sweltering summer afternoon and a crisp fall day.

I know I'm not alone. No one ever complains that, "fall is dragging on this year" or "would winter just get here already?" (skiers excluded)

Maybe we love this time of year because we are only allowed to enjoy a short burst of the beautiful colors and everything lovely fall has to offer: the fragrances, seasonal recipes, sweaters & boots, football games, and the glorious gourds! Every year we have just a few precious weeks to take it all in before it's gone.

This year I'm playing up the brass accents…

Keeping the decor simple and organic…

Mixing in a touch of typography…

Adding shades of rich blue…

...and finally pulling out these dishes, given to me from my Mom. We only used these on special occasions, but I'm thinking of a way to display them in this house. I have the whole glorious set. I think they're beautiful, even when set to the side in a random tool box.

I hoped to use the dishes in this shoot yesterday, but couldn't find a way to work them in. I set a short stack in the tool box to carry everything back up to the house, and loved they way it looked.

They made it in after all.

Happy First Day Of Autumn!

  1. Your fall decor is awesome! I like the blues and the brass. I like it all! I do love fall, but I'm actually a summer girl! :)

    1. Oh I wish I liked summer more. Anything above 75 degrees and I'm a serious grouch!
