Welcome To Friday's Furniture Fix Link-up Party!

Hello and welcome furniture lovers! I was so disappointed to hear that Marian at Miss Mustard Seed discontinued her weekly furniture feature party. She put in many good years, supporting those of us who love restoring and transforming furniture, making sad, old pieces look new and beautiful. She was my primary source of inspiration and the place where I discovered many of the furniture blogs I love.

I have exciting news to share - I've teamed up with four furniture-loving bloggers to host a weekly link party for furniture makeovers.

When Lucy asked if I might be interested in organizing something new, I jumped at the chance to be part of the team. We knew that we wanted to focus only on furniture, and create a new place for people to share their transformations.

Meet my talented co-hosts...

Please follow each host on social media, with the links provided above. You never know when we might share your piece! Use the hashtag #fridaysfurniturefix when you share your beautiful projects so we can find them.

I hope you will join us each week. The link-up begins every Thursday night at 9:00 PM EST and closes every Monday night at 11:59 PM EST. Your projects will be linked on all five blogs. Next week we will share our favorites, and feature them on social media.

I can't wait to see this party grow into a beautiful place for furniture lovers to connect!

My New Favorite Chairs and a Chalk Board Wall

I want to call these Mid Century chairs, but truthfully, I can't find any information on them. The slightly curved arms make me question just how Mid Century they are. BUT I love them anyway, because they are so pretty.

They came to me like this, from Craig's List, with a lot of potential. These guys are solid and the wood is gorgeous.

I replaced the red/pink material with a Nate Berkus print, and a quick coat of Restor-a-Finish in Maple/Pine.

Eventually I'll sell them, but for now they will live in the kids' play room upstairs.

I've been working on this room (in my mind) for a couple of months. I finally have a solid plan and something exciting in the works!

Last night I painted one whole wall in chalkboard paint, and the kids LOVE it. They've been begging for a chalkboard wall for years. Our last house had textured walls, which are an awful disappointment when it comes to chalkboard paint. This house has smooth walls, and their playroom is big enough, and has enough natural light to accommodate a black wall.

Waterfall Desk

This beautiful waterfall desk has been sitting patiently in the garage for months now, serving as a place to set my paint supplies and tools, covered in sawdust, while other projects came and went.

It took me a long time to figure out what direction to take and where to begin, so my other projects were a welcome distraction.

I sanded the top with the intention of refinishing the wood with deep, beautiful stain. The curved top of waterfall furniture is the most beautiful part, so regardless of the color I would eventually choose for the body of the desk, I knew the top would be stained. Saving the top also made me feel better about painting the rest of the desk.

I have severe guilt when it comes to painting furniture, so I put a lot of thought into each piece. Chipped, warped veneer? I can paint that, but painting gorgeous, solid, old wood gives me heartburn.

I used a mixture of General Finishes Java and Georgian Cherry Gel Stain, followed by two coats of Polycrylic.

Choosing hardware was tricky. I really like the traditional cup pulls that go with waterfall desks. They just fit the style. I wanted to keep the original cup pulls on the desk, but two pieces were missing, so I had to be creative with blending the old pulls with new knobs. I tried three different knobs before settling on these beauties. These have a gold/brass detail, which I carried over to the original pulls in order to bring together old & new.

I used a little Rub N Buff in Gold Leaf - just a light application, nothing crazy.

The color is a custom blend of three colors of Old Fashioned Milk Paint. I received my package from winning the Fab Flipping Contest, (six colors of my choosing!) and couldn't wait to blend some of these colors together for a beautiful color to match the drawer liners from Rifle Paper Co. I'm calling it Nashville Blue, in honor of a fun trip I have planned at the end of July!

Recipe: 2 parts Tavern Green / 5 parts Soldier Blue / 7 parts Snow White, or enough to lighten to your liking.

I finished with Lavendar Scented Daddy Van's Beeswax, also included in my package. This wax is great stuff. Not glossy, just a beautiful satin layer for protection.

I think that covers it! I don't want to see this one go, but I know someone will love it.
