Paint sprayers. I'm thrilled about the concept, and I've heard wonderful things, but I'm terrified.
What if I hate it? What if it splatters? What if I love it so much that I never want to pick up a paint brush again? What if it takes the personality out of my painted pieces?
Well, a few weeks ago I received a paint sprayer from HomeRight. It sat in the box for a while, as I pondered all of these questions.
Also, I needed the perfect piece to paint.
Then I remembered this rocking chair:
It was originally black when we bought it.
It became horribly weathered in Fargo, as it sat through two winters on the front porch, and the paint was literally falling off in dusty fits. Oh yes! It survived two winters in Fargo, North Dakota. You betcha!
I painted it this turquoise color, and it was an immediate fail. The color didn't feel right on the chair, then we moved to Ohio, and on top of 500 other new home projects, I really didn't feel like painting those slats again.
I followed the directions for thinning the paint. My little guy got a kick out of setting the timer as I watched the paint drain from the plastic cup, adding more water as necessary, until the mixture was just right.
I applied two light coats, and a scant third coat, just where the blue was still visible. The whole thing was done in under an hour.
This looks like a rocking chair event gone horribly wrong, but everyone is ok. You have to cover every angle.
Hubby was only mildly annoyed that I painted his lawn.
And the chair looks great in the guest room, where it lives for now.
I love the sprayer. It truly is a game changer. Some pieces deserve to be painted by hand, others need that flawless, sprayed finish, without brush marks.
And some pieces are just a pain to paint with a brush. I am so happy/relieved to have this beautiful chair back to a respectable color!
